Capturing the Season’s Spirit at Home with Halloween and Fall Décor

Happy Halloween!  It’s a spooky weather day here in central Indiana, where we’ve had fog, blustery winds, rain, and blowing snow at various times throughout the day.  There must be a LOT of little girls dressed like Elsa this Halloween, because we’re absolutely Frozen!

I’ve had a very busy month so my fall and Halloween decorations went up late this year, and I didn’t decorate a ton, but I wanted to share some of my Halloween displays. My biggest decorating effort once again was my black cat mantel, which I debuted last year. I switched it up a little this year by adding a few cats and a new garland of retro felt cat faces with orange lights for eyes. I didn’t think I’d be able to pull off using the two garlands together, but I am happy with how well they complement each other. I took a glittery spider web placemat I already had and used it as a sort of center focal point. I think it’s a nice touch. I also set my large black lanterns by the fireplace and adorned them with bows made from spider web ribbon I bought several years ago for a pumpkin craft project that never happened. I purposely did not look at photos of my black cat mantel from last year until after I finished decorating so I would be sure to change things up. You can see last year’s black cat mantel here.

I decorated my coffee table with pumpkins of various sizes, colors and materials ranging from cloth to velvet, ceramic, wood, metal, and burlap. My burlap pumpkin is the one I made last year according to my mom’s tutorial. I added fall accents and artificial flowers to a wooden Flower Market caddy I bought on clearance at Jo Ann Etc. and placed that on the coffee table along with an owl and lantern with fall leaves pressed into the glass panes. I used a new black cat table runner I got at Kohl’s on the coffee table to match my mantel theme.

The ledge above my couch is decorated in a fall theme without Halloween accents – similar to my new gallery wall – so that I can leave it up through Thanksgiving.

On my end table, hanging with the gnomes, is a new light-up ceramic pumpkin from my mom that glows with the greeting Happy Harvest, and a new Boo sign I got at Price’s Pumpkin Patch when my mom and I went pumpkin picking there earlier this month.  A light-up haunted house, stack of artificial fall leaves, and small pumpkins both real and artificial complete the look.

My new Halloween collectible this year is a black ceramic tree with orange pumpkin-shaped bulbs and purple classic bulbs that’s similar to vintage look ceramic Christmas trees. I have a white and green Christmas ceramic tree, so I was thrilled to add a unique Halloween design to my collection. I’ve really enjoyed this tree this month.

My indoor fairy garden came together quickly this year as I used a new set from Collections Etc. that includes three fall fairies and a light-up pumpkin house, on a pumpkin base my mom gave me in 2017. I added some additional Halloween fairy garden miniatures I had on hand to the scene.

Finally, I changed out the photos and decorations in my white shadowbox clip frame from summer to fall, showcasing memories made with my parents this season, and added a BOO light-up marquee sign I’ve had for several years plus a little wooden black cat to match my signature Halloween theme.

Did you decorate for Fall or Halloween or enjoy any seasonal activities this autumn? Here’s hoping November seems to linger a little longer than October did!

As for Trick or Treaters we only had 11 brave the blustery IN. weather (usually have about 60). We did have one Frozen Elsa!
