August’s challenge hosted by the blog Where Creativity Meets C9 is Anything Goes. Since there wasn’t a set theme, I knew immediately that I wanted to make a unicorn card with the Concord & 9th Unicorn Awesomeness stamp set I hadn’t had a chance to craft with yet. My July challenge card was all about shiny things, and I’m still on a glitz kick. Lately, the more glitter the better! So I knew my unicorn would end up with some sparkle. By the way, black stars are still raining out of my die cut machine every time I use it from the card I made for July’s Where Creativity Meets C9 challenge, where I cut a whole sky’s worth of stars out of my card overlay. It’s the crafting version of this past weekend’s meteor shower! I only managed to see one shooting star in the night sky, but I have an endless supply of the paper variety of them!
I started out by stamping and coloring my unicorn on Copic paper. I used the Copic marker colors shown below.
Then I took the Wink of Stella pen, which adds clear shimmer, and colored over the mane, tail and horn to make the colors glimmer. I’m including this photo so you can see the sparkle, which isn’t as evident in the other photos.
I die cut the unicorn and set him aside to figure out what to do with the background. I knew I wanted to use the cloud die that comes with the set and a turquoise background, but it took me awhile to settle on the rest, including the layout, sentiment, and accents. I used Concord & 9th’s glitter paper in pearl for the clouds and stars. This high quality paper is perfectly coated with stay-put glitter and can be die cut cleanly. In the past I’ve purchased several glitter papers made by other companies which end up being useless because the glitter layer separates from the paper as a plastic film when I run it through the die cut machine, and there is no way to get a clean cut.
Initially I wanted to use the Happy Birthday sentiment that comes with the unicorn stamp set, but the stamp “Your Awesomeness Rivals That of a Unicorn!” fit so perfectly behind the unicorn’s head that I ended up using it.
Be sure to stop by the August challenge post over at Where Creativity Meets C9 to see all the fun projects crafters created for it. Project links are shared at the end of their post, and design team cards celebrating Concord & 9th’s third birthday are featured too. OK, now the real challenge is for me to lay off the glitter with the next card I make!
