Papertrey Ink April Blog Hop Challenge

This is my first time participating in the Papertrey Ink Blog Hop, an all-day event held once a month for crafters to share via their blogs their creative projects made using Papertrey Ink products.  Each month there is a different image presented by Papertrey Ink which serves as the inspiration for the project.

April Challenge Description and Image:

“Anytime is a great time to throw a tea party and it’s such a great way to gather together a group of friends and friends and loved ones. Keep it simple or get as fancy and flowery as you want! Will this inspire you to pull out your favorite tea inspired stamps and dies? Does this painting inspire a new color combination for your project? Maybe the flowers on the teacups are creating a spark or the background texture of the painting… we can’t wait to see what you come up with!”

I loved this painting by Gail McCormack the moment I saw it.  It inspired me to make a tea-themed Mother’s Day card.  My mom and I love to go to high tea for special occasions at local tea rooms and she is always brewing a cup of tea at home too.

I used Papertrey Ink’s What the Doodle: Tea Time Mini Stamp Set and matching die set to stamp and cut out the tea cup and steam.   I colored the images with Prismacolor colored pencils using the blue, pink, yellow and gold color palette from the painting as inspiration. The kindness sentiment stamp comes from the tea stamp set too.  I added “Mom” using a Lawn Fawn stamp above the sentiment.  I used Spring Rain cardstock for the card’s background and Hibiscus Burst cardstock to frame the sentiment.  Both cardstock colors are from Papertrey Ink.  I used a piece of lace trim from Recollections to ground the images and create a tablecloth effect.  The teacup and steam were given dimension by using adhesive foam dots to attach them to the card front.

It’s a simple card but I really enjoyed playing along in the blog hop and seeing all the creative ideas crafters shared.
