Falling for Fairy Gardens

I have a bit of a fairy garden addiction.  Okay, more than a bit.  I started making them four years ago, and have expanded my tiny kingdom from one in 2013 to six outdoor fairy gardens in 2017.  There are two main reasons I’m hooked on fairy gardens.  One is that you can plant and design an entire mini garden in under an hour, which is highly satisfying.  There’s no way you can whip your yard into shape that quickly!  The second is that they are absolutely adorable, and you get to shop for the cutest miniatures.   It’s like I’m ten years old again, when my favorite pastime was filling my dollhouse with miniatures.  The last couple of years, I’ve transitioned my fairy gardens  from their original spring look to a fall theme in September.

Most fairy garden plants will survive the summer if they get enough water, and hold up pretty well until the first hard freeze. If there are any dead plants, you can just pull them out and fill in the bare spots with figures.  So far I’ve transformed one of my gardens for fall.  This one I decorated in a fall farmer’s market theme.  My mom gave me a farmer’s market set a couple years ago, and each year I make a few changes to it, adding or subtracting figures.  This year the Farm Fresh sign and basket of vegetables labeled “grow” are new.  Here are photos of it in years past.

Which year’s farmers market fairy garden is your favorite?  Have you ever made a fairy garden?  Tell me in the comments.  Happy Fall from the Fairies of Fishers!  They’ll be busy decorating more gardens for fall soon, so stay tuned.

Thanks! Your fairy garden looks great with the new plants and decorations you added! I love your little rainbow knitting fairy. It just hit me that she will match the new unicorn and bridge you got at Rosie’s!
