Fall is here and autumn fairies are near! A hot, dry stretch of summer weather finally broke a few weeks ago and gave way to comfortable temperatures and rainy days, so most of my fairy gardens are greening up and thriving right now even as summer winds down. I’m hoping we have several weeks until the first frost hits, because I just finished decorating my last fairy garden for fall on Friday and would like to enjoy my new autumn gardens for as long as possible. Without further ado, here are this year’s fall designs.
Gnome Village at Mushroom Crossing
I decorated this garden first, in mid-September. This theme could really work year-round, but the rich jewel tone colors of the mushrooms reminded me of fall. Over the summer I’d transplanted all my leftover fairy garden plants into this flowerpot, and I was glad to finally make use of the extra plants. In August, the tall sedum in the back had beautiful orange tips that I thought would look great for a fall fairy garden, but by September they’d turned completely green. I think hot, dry, sunny conditions had temporarily brought out the orange color. The three gnomes with giant mushrooms in this garden came as a set. I’d been looking for some new gnomes for quite a while but hadn’t seen any I’d really liked until these. I love everything about them! I love the curly tops of the mushrooms – especially the turquoise one with the snail on it. I added a squirrel and hedgehog and used some mushrooms and other accents from my stash of fairy garden figures. The stone pathway dotted with little red and white mushrooms and Gnome Village sign are the perfect finishing touches.
Pixie’s Pumpkin Patch
This two-tier fairy garden was inspired by a place my mom and I like to go called Price’s Pumpkin Patch, our favorite place to buy pumpkins and a beloved fall destination. The yellow miniature zinnia I planted earlier this year – when this garden was a flower shop theme – looks a lot like the fairy version of sunflowers, which Price’s also has fields of! They have lots of cute fall scenes and photo spots, and I tried to recreate that look with the hay bales, corn stalk, sunflower bench, tractor, wheelbarrow, and fence. I love all the orange, yellow and green in this garden. My eye is drawn to it whenever I look out onto my deck.
Resident fairy Pixie sits atop a pile of pumpkins in front of her pumpkin house reading a book and waiting for winged fall visitors to the pumpkin patch.
Welcome to the Witch Party
I’ve been wanting to make this fairy garden for well over a year, after seeing the jack o’ lantern fairy house online with the witch perched atop it! I pulled together all my favorite witchy fairy garden figures and finally purchased the house which had inspired the idea in the first place. The fairy garden is turned on a diagonal with the house in the back corner, because frankly that is where I had a dead patch of growth where plants died off over the summer. I put fencing on either side of the house; I love the black cat and witch’s hat that sit atop the columns. There is a treat table complete with caramel apples, donuts, a jack o’ lantern full of candy, and a witchy charcuterie board. The spellcasting corner features spell books and other magic books, bubbling cauldrons and crystal balls. The fairy on the right by ‘the witch is in sign’ looks more sweet than scary!
A Tiny Trick or Treat
I planned to have three fall fairy gardens this year but decided at the last minute to use some of my leftover Halloween miniatures to decorate a trick or treat scene for the fairy garden on my front porch too. Now this fairy garden will be ready to greet trick or treaters come October 31! During the spring and summer this container featured brightly colored miniatures from the Mary Engelbreit Merriment fairy garden collection, so I wanted to make it look more autumn-like for October. I haven’t done much decorating for fall this year; it was good to make a start on my porch with this fairy garden. After adding a pumpkin to my porch too that my mom gave me, I’m looking forward to when I can finish decorating outdoors.
This miniature garden scene features three little trick or treaters and a witch ready to hand out all sorts of tasty treats to them. I love how much the creeping thyme has grown over the edges of the container over the summer. The cherry vinca and English ivy have grown a lot in the back too. I hope these little ghouls have a creepy ‘thyme’ on Halloween night!
‘Witch’ fall fairy garden is your favorite? How do you like to celebrate fall? I hope you’re enjoying lots of pumpkin treats and Halloween sweets!

Love all your Fall Fairy Gardens! My favorite is Pixie’s Pumpkin Patch. The miniature yellow Zinnias and the tractor remind me of our favorite Prices Pumpkin Patch too. The Witch Party is fun and would have been Nancy’s favorite. Love the Carmel Apples on the tray and cobweb table. Always so much detail and great selection of plants. 🎃🧡🧚♀️
