Happy Independence Day! Today I am sharing one of my quick and easy bonus fairy gardens I made this year. I always seem to end up with more fairy gardens than I plan for initially, because they’re just so fun to do and I always have extra figures or plants I want to use. When planning my four main fairy garden themes for 2020, I kept running across my Fourth of July fairy garden figures from past years, so I set them aside in case I decided to make one again this year. Then, while browsing planters on Etsy one day, I ran across this America the Beautiful wooden crate and thought “oh I have to do a Fourth of July fairy garden now!” The crate is an old wood ammunition box that has been painted and distressed. It’s the perfect size for a fairy garden. So at the end of May I went back to Home Depot to see if I could find any red and blue flowers (I already had white lobelia and white heronsbill I hadn’t planted yet) but they were really picked over at that point so I had to settle for red petunias and blue ageratum. I am not a fan of petunias and they’re a little on the large size for a fairy garden, but they really do add a nice pop of red color to the back of the garden. I planted the flowers in “stripes” or rows by color, so red is in the back, white is in the middle, and blue is in the front.
I didn’t buy any new accessories for the garden. I had all of them on hand already and most have been used in past patriotic gardens. The sweet little fairies decked out in red, white and blue were featured in my Fourth of July fairy garden I made two years ago. Party pennants, a crate of pinwheels, and red wagon loaded with picnic provisions set the festive scene. Baskets of watermelon and strawberries, a bucket of ice cold cola, and a blue grill add to the feast. Even the snail and mushrooms are red, white and blue.
The blue jays like to eat something out of this garden… I’m not sure what! One perched on the edge of the crate for quite a while so I ran to retrieve my phone because it would have been the perfect photo – a blue bird to match the Americana fairy garden! But he flew away before I could take the picture. Now if only I could see a cardinal check it out.
Wishing you a safe and Happy Fourth of July filled with fabulous food, fun, festivities and fairy magic!
